Aesthetics Q & A

What are aesthetics?

Aesthetics includes a minimally invasive procedure that reduces wrinkles, fine lines, and crow’s feet. At Los Angeles Primary Care, the team offers aesthetics with Botox®.

Botox is an injectable neuromodulator that blocks nerve signals from reaching specific muscles in your face. That causes the muscles to relax, making your skin appear smoother.

Who can benefit from aesthetics?

To qualify for aesthetics, you need to be 18 or older and in good physical health. Let your provider know if you have a neuromuscular disease, like multiple sclerosis (MS) or if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. These factors may disqualify you from aesthetic treatment.

What happens during an aesthetics visit?

Your aesthetics visit begins with a review of your medical records and a discussion of your goals. Then, your provider examines the skin on your forehead, cheeks, and face to determine where to administer your injections.

After developing a treatment plan, your provider applies a topical anesthetic to your skin. Once the anesthetic sets in, your provider administers a series of injections. Usually, they inject your forehead, the area between your eyes, and the skin on the outsides of your eyes.

Are aesthetics safe?

Aesthetics with Botox are safe and usually well-tolerated. After your injections, avoid massaging, rubbing, or applying pressure to the treated area. You should also avoid lying down or bending over for several hours.

In the days after the procedure, it’s normal to experience mild side effects like bruising, redness, and swelling. These symptoms should subside within a day or two, but if they continue or get worse, contact your provider immediately.

How long does it take for aesthetics to work?

The time it takes for aesthetics to work depends on various factors, including your age and the type of wrinkles treated. Some people experience a significant improvement right away, but for others, it takes several weeks. Be patient, follow your provider’s instructions, and attend each checkup.

Are the results of aesthetics permanent?

The results that aesthetics provides aren’t permanent, but they last an average of 3-4 months.* To extend your results, your provider might recommend visiting the office twice a year for maintenance.
