An immigration exam is a medical evaluation required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) department. It’s meant to protect the public at large and ensure you’re healthy enough to become an American citizen.
Specifically, immigration exams ensure that foreign nationals meet the health standards required for admission into the country. Your designated civil surgeon screens for specific medical conditions required by US immigration law.
As part of your immigration exam, you may be required to update your immunization records if you’re missing certain vaccinations.
Los Angeles Primary Care recommends bringing the following documents to your immigration exam:
In addition, please let your provider know if you’ve been hospitalized or treated for a psychiatric illness in the past, including substance use disorder (SUD).
Your provider can administer the vaccinations you need based on your immunization records, age, and health history.
Some of the immunizations you may need include:
|ADULT VACCINE REQUIREMENTS||18-64 YEARS||65 YEARS & UP||PRICE|
|IPV / OPV||NO||NO|
|COVID-19||YES||YES||*Provide Proof of Vaccination|
|RPR, gonorrhea, TB Gold||$75|
|MMR/ Hep B||$75|
|EXAM + FULL VACCINATION 18-64||$990|
|EXAM + FULL VACCINATION 65+||$1,015|

You might be recommended other vaccines depending on your vaccination status.
After completing your immigration exam and getting the required vaccinations, your provider fills out any necessary paperwork and seals your results in an envelope. After you leave the office, you can submit the documentation to USCIS. You must not open the envelope unless you’re instructed by the USCIS.
Los Angeles Primary Care has minimal to no wait time. Your provider can complete your paperwork within three business days if all requirements are presented on the day of your appointment*.
If you’re seeking to adjust your immigration status, you’ll need to have an immigration specialized doctor or a USCIS civil surgeon to perform an immigration exam.
You’re also required to complete the I-693 form (Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment Status). However, you may be exempt from the exam under certain circumstances.
If you need to update your vaccination status and get an immigration exam, make an appointment at Los Angeles Primary Care by calling the office or booking online today.
